Alternatives to 55+ Communities

Alternatives to 55+ Communities

Hi, I am Christina Swain with The Swain Team. Do you want to downsize to main floor living?  But you do not want a to move to a 55+ community?

Well, what are your alternatives?  As a senior real estate specialist, I am asked this question almost every day.

You have two alternatives:

1. Ranch house:

The problem with a ranch house is twofold. First, the ranch house still comes with a level of maintenance required.  You will still be responsible for lawn care and snow removal which can be a daunting task.  Sure, it is easy to think I will just hire someone but often that is harder than it sounds.

Second, the majority of ranch homes were built 60-70 years ago and need to be remodeled and do not offer many of today’s standards like a master suite, open floor plan, or large bedrooms.  Builders do not build ranch homes anymore because it is cheaper to build up than it is out. They can make a higher profit building a colonial home.

2. Single Floor Condo or Townhouse:

There are several condo complexes in the Yardley, Holland – Southampton, and Bensalem area that offer main floor living including:

This is just to name a few.

Some of these alternatives are managed by an association, yet it is not an age restricted community. When you pay an association, usually the grass is covered along with the snow removal.
